GR effect: クロスプロセス - Cross Process

ハイコントラストB&Wに続いて使用頻度の高いGRエフェクト「クロスプロセス」。GRを使い始めた当初からその独特の色合いに魅了され、特に「Basic hueing」が作り出す世界は自ら入り込みたいと感じるほどに美しく感じました。他のカメラにも「クロスプロセス調エフェクト」が搭載されていることはありますが…違いますね（感情論で押し通します）。強い陽射しが生む高コントラストなシーン、青が目を引くシーン、どこか現実離れしたシーン。使う場面は様々ですが、「ここはクロスプロセスで撮らなくては」という謎の使命感に燃える時が今まで只々ありました。それだけクロスプロセスの色というのはGRの一つの代名詞であり、GRで写真を撮る一つの楽しみでもあります。

最近気になっているのは2018年のフォトキナ（９月ドイツ開催）で発表されたRicoh GR IIIの仕様で、エフェクトリストからクロスプロセスが抜けていたこと。まだ確定情報ではありませんが、クロスプロセスが不採用となるのは寂しいです。そうなった場合は、クロスプロセスを使うだけのためにGRを持ち歩くことになるでしょう。それだけこのエフェクトが好きなのです。作例を最後に何枚か詳細エフェクト設定と合せて貼りますのでご堪能ください。

ちなみに「クロスプロセス」の名前の由来はフィルム写真の現像方法からきています。簡単に説明すると、ポジティブフィルム（色が反転せず像が写るフィルムの種類）をネガティブフィルム用の現像液で”クロスさせて”現像する手法なのですが、これがまた面白い色味に仕上がって仕上がりを見るのが楽しいんです。せっかくなのでロモグラフィー社が出しているポジティブフィルム「X-Pro 200」をクロス現像した写真もGR作例に続いて貼っておきます。

After the High-Contrast B&W,  I'm pretty sure that my second mostly used GR effect is [Cross Process]. I know that other cameras also have this Cross Process like effect, but no one can be compared with the GR's one...I was totally amazed by its colors from the first days of using it.
Being a great effect does not mean that it can be used anywhere. You have to know which scenes are waiting to be taken with it. My preferred GR Cross Process scenes are those with strong sunlight contrast, highlighted blue, and some kind of surreal atmosphere. It is not only for fun, but using this effect is also a privilege provided to all GRists.

The one concerning thing I'm recently having is that the [Cross Process] was out from the effect list of the GR III, announced in recent Photokina 2018 (September in Germany). It would be really a pity if this effects gets removed. If that's the case, then I will keep a GR in my bag only for this effect. Please enjoy some samples shared after the text.

By the way, for those who don't know, the name "Cross Process" comes from a film developing method. Basically explained, some film photographers have fun by developing positive films (aka reversal/slide films) with negative film developers. Positive film, crossed developed as negative film. The resulting outputs are interesting as well, so I will also leave some samples together with GR shots, taken with [Lomography X-Pro 200 positive film].
